Mediterranean Wines
Born to highlight minority grape varieties that grow in the soils and mesoclimates of the Mediterranean arc, els Vins del Mediterranean is a research and collaborative project with local entities and winemakers.
THE ESTATE
The Canyaret de Biar Estate features sandy soils and a Mediterranean-continental climate with low rainfall and significant thermal amplitude. Bobal vines are old, bush-trained, and late-ripening. Bobal is organically cultivated and certified by the Committee of Organic Agriculture of the Valencian Community (CAECV).
LA BOBAL 2020
Single-varietal wine made from old-vine Bobal, a native variety of Alicante. Hand-harvested with double selection, both in the vineyard and at the winery. Fermentation with whole berries without stems. Gentle daily pump-overs during the first days to aid extraction, followed by a short maceration at the end of the process. Gentle pressing and subsequent aging for 6 months in stainless steel tanks. Lees are racked off until a clean wine is achieved. Bottled without clarification or filtration.
TASTING NOTES
La Bobal is a red wine with an intense red color and bright tone. On the nose, notes of blackberry and pomegranate stand out, evolving on the palate into aromas of licorice and black tea. Rustic tannins are rounded out by carbonic maceration, resulting in a fresh, pleasant wine with structure.
